New Endpoint-level Rate Limits (Starting October 23rd)

📘

Rollout is Complete

As of December 1st, 2023, Samsara completed the rollout of the new endpoint-level rate limits. If there are any remaining questions, please reach out to Support or your Samsara point-of-contact.

Background

Samsara's APIs have rate limits in place to protect our services from API traffic spikes that could put our servers at risk, and we are taking a preventative measure to roll out stricter endpoint-level rate limits that align with industry best practices.

See what the endpoint-level rate limits will be here.

How does this affect you?

While this is a global change that Samsara will enforce for new customers, we have implemented measures for our existing customers to ensure you can maintain your current call patterns.

Please note that we retrieved API traffic data between June 16th, 2023, and September 10th, 2023, to evaluate the current call patterns. If you have plans to increase your current usage, you must be aware that you may run into these enforced rate limits.

What happens next?

We will begin the rollout of the new rate limits on October 23, 2023. While no immediate action is required on your end, it is highly encouraged as a best practice when building integrations to implement an exponential backoff algorithm to handle "429 rate limit reached" status codes.
